Information Technology Assistant

Tuesday, 15 January 2013 11:09

Job Title:  Information Technology Assistant

Reports to

Director of Information Technology

Job Summary

The Information Technology assistant will work with the Director on desktop support, first-tier helpdesk issues, and pretty much anything else that the Information Technology team works with. This is the sort of job for someone who loves technology, loves to learn about new things, wants to experience the entirety of what computing has to offer, and has a lot of fun doing it. If you're the kind of person who stays up at night playing with the latest version of Ubuntu, committing changes to github, editing Wikipedia, writing code for an Arduino, or really wants to do those things, this is the job for you.

This is a great job opportunity for someone starting out in the field of Information Technology, or someone who has a bit of experience and really wants to learn more. Maybe you're awesome with computers but you haven't had a full-time gig yet, despite being dynamite on personal projects and internships. Here, you'll get the opportunity to work with everything from firewalls to printers, phone systems to digital signage. We built this school from the ground-up to be a leader in technology, and your goal will be to work to that end, in whatever capacity best suits the school's need and your skill set.

Not every day will be perfect, but they'll all be different. Some days we'll be sorting out a bunch of old equipment, or testing equipment from a donation. Other days we’ll be setting up A/V for an event or wiping hard drives. There will also be a decent amount of user support, and a lot of hardware installation (setting up computers, moving them, etc.). If you're really good at programming, we might have you do some programming work, or if you're awesome at databases you might do some DB work.

We're looking for someone who's a great fit for the organization, has the technical acumen to excel, and believes in the mission of Cristo Rey Jesuit. If you always loved computers, and just knew you had to work with them, you probably want to apply for this job. If you're the right person, email your resume, and a couple paragraphs about why you're interested in this job to Mark E Bazin ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). He'll get back to you in the next few days.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot both software and hardware issues
  • Strong knowledge of Windows client software
  • Familiarity with Windows server software
  • Some experience with IP networks
  • Experience with programming is a plus -- the languages do not matter
  • Experience with Linux and Open Source software
  • Some experience with databases and maybe a cursory knowledge of SQL
  • Familiarity with Information Security
  • Understanding of Virtualization
  • Knowledge of Audio-Visual systems

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year University
  • Technology certifications are a plus
  • Teaching Experience, a teaching certificate, or interest in teaching is a plus
