The amazing story of Cristo Rey Jesuit added a new chapter Thursday evening as Paul Posoli was Missioned as President.
The Missioning was part of the back to school Mass of the Holy Spirit; a tradition at Jesuit schools. Posoli will lead the school as just the second president, following the tenure of late founding President Father TJ Martinez, SJ. Posoli shared that he is humbled in his new role, and understands its significance. “We are going to have an extraordinary year. We are going to bring together the community and set a standard of excellence for every area in the school.”
As his wife, children and parents watched, Posoli was Missioned by the Very Reverend Ronald Mercier SJ, the Provincial of the Central and Southern Province of the Jesuits. “We Jesuits are proud of our relationship with this school,” he told the Mass audience.
In addition to the significant presence of Reverend Mercier, His Excellency the Most Reverend Joseph A. Fiorenza shared his pride and joy of being in attendance, and part of Cristo Rey Jesuit’s journey.
Reverend Anthony Wieck, SJ, Reverend Tony Rauschuber, SJ, Reverend Jeff Johnson, SJ, and Deacon Daniel O’Dowd.
After the moving ceremony, the crowd was wowed by a team of strolling mariachis and a fun feast from James Coney Island.
Students and parents in attendance seemed to leave upbeat, and excited about the future of Cristo Rey Jesuit. “Everything about this school year so far has been so positive, so organized so special,” one shared. “We think Mr. Posoli is right. It is going to be a great year!”
