Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston will formally welcome Father Mario Alberto Torres in a special Mass scheduled for Friday, January 15th at 11:45am.
Father Torres joins our team as Executive Director of Mission and Operations. He and the rest of the Campus Ministry team play a vital role in our goal to form the spiritual lives of our students, their families and faculty/staff.
Father Torres comes to Cristo Rey Jesuit after serving as Regional Superior of the Society of Jesus in Puerto Rico since 2009.
“Father Torres is an exceptional person. It would be very difficult not to be impressed with his resume and deep commitment to the mission and principles of the Jesuits,” said Cristo Rey Jesuit president Paul Posoli.
Father Torres, who speaks fluent English, Spanish, and French, is a licensed psychologist who is proud of his academic successes.
Raised in Puerto Rico, he is the fifth of seven children who attended Colegio San Ignacio High School before coming to the United States in 1977 to do his undergraduate work at Loyola University in New Orleans. He earned his BA in psychology as a magna cum laude graduate in 1981. Over the course of the next seven years, he pursued his advanced degrees, an MS and PhD in psychology, at Pennsylvania State University. He was working as a staff psychologist in Maryland when God called him in a different direction. He followed it and entered the Jesuit community in 1991 at the age of 31. His training included assignments in Paris, Boston,San Francisco and Puerto Rico.
His educational background includes an 11-year assignment as president of Colegio San Ignacio High School in San Juan.
Parents are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to briefly meet Father Torres at the conclusion of the Mass to be held in the gym.
