New Students Prepare for Real World Work Experience

To prepare new Cristo Rey Jesuit students to start working at major Houston corporations, our Corporate Work-Study Program (CWSP) team holds a two-week training program called Building the Pride. During the training, the CWSP team covers everything from basic interpersonal skills, such as making a good first impression and customer service, to technical skills, such as filing and learning Microsoft Office Suite. Students work independently and in groups to complete a variety of assignments practicing the skills they learn.

“Our goal is to give students the tools they’ll need to be successful in the workplace,” said Patrick Gill, CWSP Manager of Curriculum Development.

Building the Pride will be held July 25 through August 5 from 7:30 AM until 12:30 PM (although on July 29 there will be late dismissal at 1:30 PM and there will be no training August 1). The mandatory Math Bridge training will be held Aug. 2-5.

Each student will begin working one day a week, starting in September, at one of our 165 corporate partners’ office to offset the cost of their education. However, before setting foot in an office, students will be well prepared after attending Building the Pride.
