Our staff, faculty, and students gave our sister school in Baton Rouge 10,000 reasons to hope for a better future after their school was devastated by flooding in August. Our community showed that we are men and women for others when we presented the Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School principal with a $10,000 check, while she was visiting our school, to help them rebuild. The money was collected after numerous fund-raising efforts, including car washes, bake sales, and entrance to dodge ball games. The Baton Rouge principal, Aimee Wiles, was nearly brought to tears and was so appreciative when accepting the check from our president, Paul Posoli, Principal David Garcia-Prats, and student body representatives Marcus Tierrablanca and Lauren Obi.
Immediately after hearing the devastating news, Cristo Rey Network schools challenged each other to raise money to rebuild the school. Incredibly, one of our freshman, Adela Cerino, raised nearly $700 by herself through her church.
