As scholarships are being awarded before graduation, one scholarship has roots at Cristo Rey Jesuit. The Mary Ann Wallace Scholarship was recently awarded for the fourth time to a CRJ senior based on GPA, extracurricular and community involvement, and an essay. “The education I’ve received at CRJ is really helpful in opening my eyes and seeing where I can help my family,” the winning scholarship entry read. “Education is a gateway to many different opportunities that can be opened by taking what you are given and making it into something new.”
“I started this scholarship as a way to have an opportunity to learn more about the students at CRJ,” said the Executive Director of the scholarship, Aileen McCormick, who also volunteers her time to facilitate some of our Corporate Work-Study Program (CWSP) business functions. “The essays provide some insight into graduating seniors with respect to how they feel about the education and formation they received from CRJ, as well as the impact the CWSP has had on them.”
Mary Ann Wallace was McCormick’s cousin who had been an educator for 39 years and was a woman of faith.
