Students Join Forces to Repair Homes

For the fifth year, several Cristo Rey Jesuit students and staff members joined forces with three other Catholic high schools during Spring Break to help repair homes. Typically, during Spring Break, teams of students and adults head to Eagle Pass, Texas each year to replace roofs, porches and sheetrock, and to paint homes; however, this year, COVID-19 caused the selfless students to find Houston-area homes of non-profit organizations to repair. They repaired the siding and roof at the Dona Marie Clubhouse (a farm-based psychosocial rehabilitation program helping those living with mental illness), fencing for the Maryknoll Missionaries (a Catholic non-profit mission movement) home, and replaced the roof at Cristo Rey Jesuit’s future volunteer house. Cristo Rey Jesuit juniors who participated will continue in leadership roles as Kairos leaders next year.
