Students Go Corporate: Wrapping Up Work-Study Jobs

Cristo Rey Jesuit’s innovative Corporate Work-Study Program (CWSP), which places students in work-study internships and provides four years of professional work experience at Houston-area businesses, is one of the most significant reasons students are drawn to Cristo Rey Jesuit.  In addition to the school’s college-preparatory academics, numerous sports programs, and Campus Ministry programs, the school’s CWSP helps students develop valuable workplace readiness, introduces students to supportive mentors, and helps to build the necessary confidence to help students succeed in college and their careers.

Students like Monica, a rising senior, were so excited to return to their work-study offices after the pandemic forced Cristo Rey Jesuit students and the CWSP team to restructure so students could work remotely. Although our school year is wrapping up and students are working their final days at their jobs, many students, like Monica, have had incredibly satisfying work experiences.

The past two years, Monica has been working at EDF Trading North America, LLC, an energy company located in Downtown Houston. “I was so excited to go back into the office following the pandemic after working remotely for two years,” Monica said.  “I missed the office environment, working in the finance department, interacting with people with different backgrounds, and learning more about EDF. I enjoy contributing and helping departments because I like to help and learn new things.”

When Monica comes back as a senior next year, she will be ready to jump right into her corporate work-study job and will be prepared to take on even more responsibility.
