COVID – CWSP

Corporate Work-Study Program

Sponsors

Based on the data we have gathered from you and our other corporate partners; most of our sponsors are still working remotely and do not have plans to return on-site until January 2021 or later. To accommodate the differing partner needs and to develop some consistency for our 520 students, for the Fall Semester, we have decided it is best that students not attend work in person. Instead, they will be completing an interactive, online curriculum from home. During that time, students will get to know you better and will work with their supervisor(s) or assigned team designee(s) to learn significant information about their job, company and industry. We realize this means our students will not provide you their normal services this Fall Semester that you have come to expect from CRJ’s Corporate Work-Study Program.  Despite that, our goal is for them to develop a strong relationship with you and to be exceptionally well-prepared for their jobs when they start back up in the Spring.  And, as this is now not a fee for service for the Fall Semester, that portion of our contract will be recognized as a charitable donation.

Beginning September 14, each day of the week, an entire grade level will engage in learning activities outlined in the comprehensive work-study curriculum designed by Cristo Rey Jesuit’s CWSP Department. As in past years, the following workdays have been assigned to our students.

  • Monday – Seniors
  • Tuesday – Sophomores
  • Wednesday – Freshmen
  • Thursday – Juniors

Areas of focus for the First Quarter include industry analysis, identification, and trends, followed by organizational analysis and departmental onboarding in the Second Quarter. Students will get familiar with your company structure and culture, while also virtually meeting colleagues within their department and learning about their team’s culture. They will spend time discovering different leadership styles, including their own, and will end the semester exploring culture in the workplace. To demonstrate what they learn, students will be assigned various projects in Office 365 to hone their Microsoft skills and further apply the career and technical education components taught in their College Readiness courses.  Additionally, to support your interaction with our students, there will be pre-planned supervisor engagement activities each week, aligned with each topic, that you will receive ahead of time.

Students

For the Fall Semester, students will not attend work in person, but will follow an interactive, online curriculum from home. They will participate in project-based learning, demonstrating knowledge through Microsoft Office integrations and other creative means. Over the 16 weeks, they will engage with their employer supervisor(s) or mentor and will learn significant information about their company, its industry, their department, team and role. The Practicum in Business Management course includes a comprehensive curriculum designed by Cristo Rey Jesuit’s CWSP Department. It will be delivered by the CWSP staff in conjunction with guest lecturers and industry experts.

  • Each day of the week, an entire grade will attend online class according to the schedule below.
    • Monday – Seniors
    • Tuesday – Sophomores
    • Wednesday – Freshmen
    • Thursday – Juniors
  • This will be a synchronous class, so CWSP instruction and learning will take place at set times each workday, except for Fridays. Fridays are asynchronous days. Students will not have CWSP assignments to complete, but may be required to attend a virtual, check-in meeting with their supervisor and work team. If students are not scheduled to meet with their supervisor or team, they will use Fridays to complete academic assignments, attend office hours or tutorials and get feedback from your teachers.
