Gala VIVA the Miracle

Miracle Gala Supports Cristo Rey Jesuit Student Scholarships

On February 2, 2019, 800 friends of Cristo Rey Jesuit were greeted by the class of 2019 lining the lobby of the Houston’s Marriott Marquis as they made their way to our Viva the Miracle Gala, chaired by Lisa and Michael Heim. Dancing for hours to the beat of I Love This Band, guests partied well into the morning hours, celebrating 10 years of Cristo Rey Jesuit miracles and raising an astounding $2.2 million in support of Cristo Rey Jesuit student scholarships.

The evening featured welcoming remarks from Cristo Rey Jesuit alumni siblings Manuel, a junior at Texas A&M University and Mariana Lopez, a freshman at the University of Texas. Additionally, Victoria Perez, Cristo Rey Jesuit class of 2013 and Texas Women’s University class of 2017 proudly took the stage with our seniors to thunderous applause. Our brand-new alma mater was publicly debuted with a performance by two alumni: Angela Barsallo, attending Southern Methodist University, and Kate Celestino, attending the Univeristy of St. Thomas. Hearing straight from the students whose lives were changed by their Cristo Rey Jesuit education, guests were inspired to participate in Paddles Up, raising money to provide scholarships for 260 of our 540 students, including the endowment of 2 student scholarships.

As President Paul Posoli said from the stage, surrounded by the Cristo Rey Jesuit class of 2019, “Tonight, you are planting seeds for thousands of future Lions and the people they will go on to inspire in their own lives. I’m inspired every day by our students’ fortitude, their faith, and their ability to overcome the challenging circumstances they face each day. These young men and women give me great hope for the future of our city and our country.” Finally, a standing ovation was bestowed upon the evening’s honoree, Archbishop Emeritus Joseph A. Fiorenza, as he accepted the Fr. TJ Martinez, SJ, Legacy Award for his tireless dedication to the school since its founding.

Among the crowd of miracle workers were Trini Mendenhall, Sarah and Doug Foshee, Louise and Tom Bannigan, Joy Posoli, Beth and Paul Steier, Laura and John Arnold, Bob and Lynn Murphy, Carol and Paul Beck, Jan and Oniel Mendenhall, Kendall Miller, Natalie and Brett Agee, Susie Garofolo and Nick Ro, Roxann and Tim Neumann, Susan and Peter Tumminello, Michael Dillard, Gretchen and Brad Richter, Kathy and Marty Goossen, Mikki Hebl and David Harvey, Eileen and Steve Snider, Emily and Robert Clay, Janelle and Greg Reid, Sofia Adrogué, Marty and Darlene Makulski, Rosi and Jesus Pacheco, Pam and Keith Fullenweider, Ann and John Bookout, Kristin and Chris Wallis and Jane and Doug Bland.

The outstanding success of this high-energy Gala is thanks to the dedication of our fantastic chairs, Lisa and Michael Heim, along with the underwriters, table sponsors, Paddles Up participants, and amazing committee members who gave great support in organizing our auction, raffle, decor, and more, whose efforts to ensure that this would be a gala unlike any other definitely paid off.
