Part-Time Accounting Coordinator

Job Summary:

Cristo Rey Jesuit is an apostolic work of the Society of Jesus serving the Catholic Church’s mission of education in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.  Now in its eleventh year, Cristo Rey Jesuit offers a rigorous college prep education available to students of limited economic resources in the Houston area.  A unique Corporate Work-Study Program places students in Houston businesses and non-profits where they learn the expectations of the corporate world and earn up to 50 percent of the cost of their education.   Cristo Rey Jesuit belongs to the national Cristo Rey Network of schools and the national Jesuit Schools Network.


The Accounting Coordinator position is a part time support role in the Finance Office.

Primary Responsibilities:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following:


  • Maintain student tuition records; prepare monthly invoices and statements to families.
  • Post tuition receipts to customer accounts.
  • Handle cash deposits
  • Assist with communicating with families to collect past due accounts; identifying those who may need additional financial aid; working with families to develop payment plans during times of hardship.
  • During admission season, review incoming student financial information and assign tuition rate. 


Accounts Payable:

  • Maintain purchase order records.
  • Petty cash reconciliations 
  • Assist with weekly check run (i.e. mail vendor checks, obtain appropriate approvals, request W-9s)
  • Request and collect receipts for credit card charges


School Nutrition Program:

  • Enter and maintain application and qualification records for the federal school lunch program.


Assist with other administrative and accounting duties and other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: Database Software (Access); Spreadsheet Software (Excel); Word Processing Software (Word); Electronic Mail Software; and Presentation software (PowerPoint).


    • Valid driver’s license.


    • Experience working in an urban or Catholic school setting.
    • Teaching, management or sales background.
    • For-profit businesses backgrounds in customer service or Human Resources.
    • Experience managing client relationships, data, and preparing regular reports.
    • Fluency or high proficiency in the Spanish language


    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Educational and Experience Requirements:
    • Bachelor degree from four-year college or university
    • Fluency or high proficiency in the Spanish language
